Sacred Geometry Table

A few years ago, I worked my way through A Beginner's Guide to Constructing The Universe. It has a lot of information about the historical, mystical, mythic, psychological, mathematical, biological aspects of squares, triangles, pentagrams, hexagrams, etc -- along with step by step instructions for constructing these forms with a compass and straight edge. So I painted a table for my garden deck, using the instructions in the book. I recently completed the pieces on the sides. I didn't know much about building furniture back then. Some notes from the book:

The foundation is the Vesica Piscis, which can be used to construct all the abovementioned geometric figures:

"Of the shape in the center, created by centering an equal circle on any point on a circle:

This almond space is the crucible of the creating process. It is an opening to the womb from which geometric forms are born. It brings forth shapes and patterns from the archetypal world of ideal geometry. The vesica piscis is a yoni (Sanskrit term for the female generative organs) though which the geometric shapes and patterns of our universe emerge. For this reason it has also been called the womb of Chaos, the womb of the Goddess of Night, and the mouth that speaks the word of creation. The vesica piscis is where the geometer assists in the birthing process (p32)"

"The Moslem arch and cathedral doorway are both designed using two intersecting circles and vesica piscis, but at right angles to each other. Through these doors, symbols of spiritual passage, we leave the street of the Many and enter the domain of the One. " (p33)

"The first three shapes to emerge from the vesica piscis, the triangle, square, and pentagon, form the only relationships or ratios required to generate all the rest (except for sevenness)."

"Counting is a retelling of the original creation myth in the purest archetypal terms...Since "one" and "two" were considered by ancient mathematical philosophers to be the parents of numbers, then their firstborn, "three," the Greek Triad, is the first and eldest number. Its geometric expression, the equilateral triangle, is the initial shape to emerge through the portal of the vesica piscis, the first of the many."

You get the drift. It's a fascinating book, and working through the exercises is definitely a fascinating attention training.
