Wearable Space Ship

When I was Howard K. Martian,   I had a tiny wearable space ship that i used to race cable cars on Nob Hill.

I made one for my grandson. He steps into it and holds it by handles as he runs around. It has to be super light for a 3 year old, so I used 1/8 inch plywood. I consulted with my  woodworking guru, Geo, and he came up with this design:

The panels on the hexagon and the nose cone were attached to fore and aft hexagons of plywood:

The whole thing was assembled with hot glue. After the glue dried, all the seams were strengthened with canvas strips soaked in wood glue.

Still pretty light weight. I may upload a video of him the first time he uses it. I'm also taking advantage of his interest in space ships to introduce him to making. I have all the materials and tools. He will color and cut with kiddy scissors and glue with a glue stick and tacky glue. I have some lightweight cardboard rolled up inside the tube. We can make fins out of it. He can glue pix of himself in a space suit and of his hero, Buzz Lightyear. The paper cup is the nosecone and the red pipe cleaner is for the flames shooting out the bottom. We might cut and glue some red paper for that, as well.
