Members of this support group have 100 or more pounds to lose. While there are numerous weight loss support groups on the Net, these folks felt their particular needs should have special attention (although they are affiliated with the Magic of Believing weight loss list). Support, encouragement and practical advice make up most of the exchanges. Members talk about their exercise, the pain of being taunted, having a spouse make denigrating comments, how they managed to stay on their food plan for another day, ways they coped with eating out, and much more. No particular food plan is required although some participants post their daily food journal. While this is a close-knit group who have committed to helping each other through a long process, newcomers are welcome. After a two week trial, the list owner sends a request for a $10 fee to help pay for running the list, and this seems to reduce the number of long-term lurkers which helps participants to feel more at ease when sharing. - E.L.
