MediaMOO has been described a "virtual water cooler" - a space both professional and casual for media researchers to network and see what their fellow researchers are up to. Interested in the educational uses of MOOs? Implications of virtual reality for performance and art? Gender issues in cyberspace? Democracy in a virtual community? Don't be surprised if you start up a conversation and find yourself talking with someone who's pioneered thinking in those areas.
