Alt.pinecone seems to have very little to do with pinecones, which is the beginning of the self-referential absurdity. A group of enthusiasts visit it regularly, discussing grammar, nonexistent uncles, the effect of daylight savings time on the space-time continuum, and so on. Sound unclear? It is. It's also one of the most fun and laid back places on usenet. This group also has a tendency to respond to spam in amusing ways. While the group is worldwide, many of the regulars seem to be Canadian. - D.L.
